This course is designed for people ages 8-88 that have always wanted to have a basic understanding of music theory! Whether you want to learn to write music, play music or just gain a deeper appreciation of listening to music, this course is for you.
There are 31 questions on notation, time signature, staff identification, dynamics and basic major and minor scales with some chord building. This is an introduction to music notation and theory, but some intermediate and advanced concepts are explored. There are also links to various sites if you want to delve deeper into any one subject.
In addition, I have created a YouTube video clip to summarize each question as I demonstrate the concepts with guitar, piano and voice.
Enjoy!

I am really enjoying this course. It uses a great mix of music theory with short video clips that make it very engaging and enjoyable.
I play jazz guitar but just by ear. Have always wanted to know more about music theory and this course is a great intro. The information is very clearly presented. I am hoping for a sequel.
The course may be too basic for some but it was just right for me and I learned a lot.
I liked this course very much and enjoyed the questions and especially the videos. Most of the course was very basic, and I felt that the slightly more difficult stuff towards the end was a bit rushed.
I would like to move to the next level and learn more about major / minor / diminished etc chords, and about chord progressions on the piano.
Thanks
Dennis
This course provides a good review for someone who has a background in music theory. However, for a novice, there are no hints or clues provided with the questions. This means you have to simply guess the answers, and afterwards the information is presented.
I’m adding a star because as soon as I made that comment, HINTS began to appear with the questions. I wish I had just waited a few more questions.
